Research shows that social networks are seen as a threat to mental health – Jornal Estado de Minas

To know that economic uncertainty, conflict, social exploitation and employment, among other concerns, affect health and mental health of Brazilians of different ages, genders and regions of the country, H2R Insights & Trends conducted a survey. Flash H2R on Character with the theme of health and mental health. According to the collected data, nine out of ten respondents said that they are worried about their brain.

“We live in a turbulent time with many changes. Our research has shown that financial problems, stress at work and, at the same time, the fear of losing a job, or the loss of people close to us, are important factors in anxious. All this, enhanced by the use of social networks”, explained CEO of H2R Insights & Trends, Rubens Hannun.

Age, income and region

This study takes several perspectives to identify these perspectives in Brazil. In terms of age, the results are similar between generations, there is no difference. The fourth generation (Z, Y, X and Baby Boomer) are most concerned/concerned about mental health.

When the cut is from income, there is no difference between the two. In all regions of Brazil, the rate of people who say they are worried about mental health is very high. The lowest rate is in the South, 44%, while in the North region it reaches 64%.

Factors affecting mental health

The growth of technology and media is seen as the main factor affecting people’s mental health, followed by financial and political issues. More than 80% of those interviewed agree that these problems have a significant impact on mental health, with the conclusion that discrimination about the approach to the problem causes it heavier. Having mental health problems is still seen as a stigma in society and talking about it is forbidden. And in fact because the problem is not talked about more, people delay in seeking help or treatment.

Research wants to understand how each person perceives this problem, or whether they have experienced it with someone close to them. More than half (59%) have lived with people who have been diagnosed with a mental health problem, a situation that is more common among women and generations Z (18 to 24 years old) and Y ( 25 to 40 years).

Although there are concerns about the content, in general, people’s perception of their level of health is average, with 51% of men and 44% of women over leave themselves to have high health. “Because they are simultaneously mothers, grandmothers, workers, housewives, cooks, wives and friends, among other roles, they are more exposed to everyday problems, which perhaps explains the difference between the sexes”, points out Rubens Hannun.

Corporate involvement is important

Reasons for companies to engage in the issue of mental health, to create a culture of support and listening, and to fight discrimination that also affects the entry high on the problem, go far without losing valuable employees.

Since they provide support to individuals with depression, they also help the groups in which these professionals work and the people they live with, in social and family contexts . It’s a positive attitude that is contagious.

Mental illness is a current problem, which is already part of the concern of a growing number of people, and can affect everyone, without any difference. Therefore, it must be met without restrictions or judgments, so that everyone who needs treatment can seek it without fear of judgment. Their own, or other people.

For this research, 1,023 interviews were conducted with Brazilians, between September 11 and 19th. People 18 years of age or older are interviewed. Brazilian customers from classes A, B and C were interviewed, with the profile and region of the interviewees analyzing the true Brazilian profile. The technique can be used in many ways with interviews through online chats.
