ChatGPT gets update and has 100 million users – 11/06/2023 – Tec

At the first OpenAI event for programmers, the director of the creator of ChatGPT, Sam Altman, announced an update to artificial intelligence – now it can understand long texts and access information recently.

The model released this Monday (6), in San Francisco (USA), is called GPT-4 Turbo. With the development, artificial intelligence will have the knowledge of the truth until April 2023.

The device also has the ability to understand the content of around 128 thousand broken words – corresponding to a 300-page book.

The new version of ChatGPT also gets the ability to define additional functions for use without the need for a command in advance. Previously, for example, to search the Internet it was necessary to select an option from the menu at the top of the screen. The platform currently identifies search requirements based on text only.

The same is true for other features focused on writing and interpreting data.

Still at the event, Altman announced that ChatGPT reaches an average of 100 million users per week, without having to advertise. “Everything was done by word of mouth,” he said. Discussions, for comparison, often publish this information per day.

Currently, 2 million programmers create applications using OpenAI technology.

Initially, GPT-4 Turbo was limited to OpenAI commercial customers. This audience pays the AI startup a fixed subscription fee and does not have a fixed subscription.

The launch of GPT-4 Turbo, in addition to the technical features, will also make the language model cheaper by more than 60%. Until then, GPT-4 cost 20 times more than GPT 3.5.

Starting this Monday, all OpenAI services for companies become cheaper.

Another new feature announced this Monday is the ability to create special platforms called “GPTs” within ChatGPT itself. With this, it will be possible, for example, to train a version of ChatGPT dedicated to answering questions about biology, with a low frequency of errors.

This can be done without any programming, just with commands.

Such solutions have already been tested in large companies, such as the chat app Discord. The company uses AI developed with OpenAI to identify aggressive messages and provide appropriate responses to users.

Monitoring internet slander is one of OpenAI’s efforts to generate revenue from its artificial intelligence.

Developers will be able to sell GPTs in the OpenAI store, similar to Apple’s App Store and Android’s Play Store.

This Monday, OpenAI platforms also received functionality to read text with six different voices. The demo is made in English and there is no information on how the feature will work.

ChatGPT smartphone application is already able to receive voice commands and translate images since the last update.

In a sign of support for Microsoft’s commitment to OpenAI, the company’s chief technology officer, Satya Nadella, made a surprise appearance at the conference. The support of the company founded by Bill Gates is important in the expensive race to the front of artificial intelligence.

The OpenAI team develops language models on Microsoft’s Azure supercomputers. In return, the Windows manufacturer has added AI startup capabilities to its products.
